Guardians of the Garden

17/08/2017
On Sunday 13th August, I accompanied Ms Harrington and 4 class representatives from 4A to the Ekka for the judging of their wheelbarrow in the Schools Garden Competition. The students of 4A designed a wheelbarrow using the theme of Alice in Wonderland and incorporated elements of the 5 senses. The class had been working on the establishment of the plants for approximately 6 weeks. For some of the students this was the first time they have entered a competition and for others it was the first time they have remained true to a task and seen it through. The class worked on this relentlessly with Ms Harrington, Mrs Switzer and Ms Jans supporting them along the way. On the day of the judging, Ms Harrington and the students were very anxious and excited at the same time. The students had to talk about the wheelbarrow to the judges and explain how and why they designed it the way they did. They were amazing at talking about their creation and as I stood back and observed I saw success and PRIDE. These students were representing their class and the whole school and were glowing with Pride for what they had achieved. Further more, this feeling was bumped to elation when it was announced that they had WON the division for their wheelbarrow.
I was extremely proud of our students, the teachers and their success and I congratulate them for having the courage to enter the competition, believe in themselves and see the project though. This is the success that I wish for every child.
